Ineke Heerkens takes photographs of the city’s landscape while cycling to her studio. Colourful plastic bags, carelessly thrown away are swept around by the wind. Captured by the camera at full cycling speed the trees and garbage fuse into new images. Ever since her graduation in 2001 Heerkens’ artistic research is about the translation of movement into material and form. An astute observer, she registers both the common and the accidental and narrates about it in her jewellery. Her new collection shows dynamic forms and rich shades of green materials. Did you ever look around you in that way while riding your bike? Trees become blurred, green flashes and dancing plastic bags turn into thick smears of paint. On arrival in her studio Heerkens turns her speed smudged impressions into wearable form - as jewellery.
